Why trademarks are important to my business.

An EU trade mark is important to your business if you ever trade overseas. Trademarks are territorial which means you will only gain protection in the country in which you register your trade mark. The EU whilst a more expensive option than the UK, is a useful route to take as it protects you in 27 member states. However what it does not do is protect you in individual countries i.e. if there is already a similar earlier mark in say Germany, this will not be picked up by an EU trademark search.

In saying that it is still an excellent way to protect your brand. Trade marks are crucial in building up a good reputation and in these demanding economic times standing out from the crowd can be the difference in success and failure.
